2018 has been a difficult year for personal reasons, but I also feel that I’ve grown as a person and made some big decisions about my life, mainly that I wanted to leave my job and go traveling. Here’s my roundup of trips:

January

In January I went to Ayr in Scotland for the funeral of a close family friend, despite the sad circumstances it was good to met with old friends and I ensured we took a bracing walk along the beach.

At the end of January, I went to London with family for a family birthday, unfortunately this trip was marred by a close family death just before we left. We went to watch the School of Rock which was amazing the children were brilliant. I took a trip to the Hemsley Café in Selfridges which I waited a ridiculous amount of time for but I’m pretty stubborn and once I decided I was going in I wasn’t walking away, luckily my sister in law is equally as tenacious.

February

February saw a trip to Dorset, following the difficult start to the year I decided I didn’t want to travel far for my birthday so choose to go on a staycation. I’d been wanting to visit Durdle Door for ages so now seemed like the perfect time. See my post on Durdle Door and Money World. Durdle Door was as beautiful as the pictures I had seen, we had a cold but perfect day.

March / April

Over Easter I went to Lanzarote for my first surfing trip, I’m not sure why I decided to go surfing it’s not something I’ve ever really thought about. I absolutely loved it and wish I’d done it sooner, that way I might be better at it! Lanzarote surprised me, it probably helped that I was in the north of the Island and staying in a town that had a noise curfew so was very chilled out and calm.

May

May saw a small weekend trip to turkey with some friends who have an apartment in Fetiye.  The weather did a cheeky thing and was cloudy in Turkey and beautiful in the UK.

July

July saw a 2-week family holiday to Corfu, I haven’t been on holiday with my brothers since I was a child. We all had a wonderful time; the only down side was the smell of rubbish everywhere as the bins were not being collected.

August

In August I hoped over to Ireland, I spent some time in Dublin with friends and then went on a surfing and yoga weekend, after the brilliant summer we had the weather decided it was going to go back to normal!

October

A friend and I went on a cheeky weekend to Bournemouth and I introduced her to the wonders of Durdle Door once again it was cold but we had beautiful weather.

November

My last trip abroad was to Portugal in November to go surfing, unfortunately I’m still not great at surfing! I finished the trip with a few days in Lisbon, which had been on my to do list for a while.

December

At the end of December I went to a vineyard in Gloucester with family and friends for my Mums birthday. A lot of food and a fair amount of wine was consumed. We visited Tewksbury Abbey and Tintern Abbey.

All in all a fairly good year for trips! In the previous 2 years I have taken a long-haul trip but this year most of my holiday went on being used for the family holiday. I would have liked to have gone to Amsterdam this year and to visit Stone Henge, but holiday allowance didn’t allow for this.
