Unfortunately a close family friend died at the beginning of January. Qué a family trip to Scotland for the funeral.

For someone who normally travels alone, traveling with my parents was a little odd! Bless my mum who wasn’t looking at the right gate and didn’t get through the barrier when she scanned her boarding pass! And then got confused with liquids and hand luggage!

Transport

Off we went to Glasgow airport, hired a car through Europcar, upgraded because of the snow! Now I’m not normally into cars (I can’t actually remember what we had!) But this car was super comfy! I needed a step ladder to get out but I can live with that!

Accommodation

We travelled to Ayre and stayed at the Inverlea Guesthouse, lovely little B&B, comfortable rooms with tartan carpets, good breakfast and friendly host, we even had a complimentary drink on arrival and a chocolate on our pillow! I’d defiantly stay again.  http://www.inverlea.co.uk/

Food

We went for dinner at The Fox and Willow which is conveniently next door. I love foxes so was pretty happy in a fox pub especially as it had my favourite cider on tap!!!
I am gluten free and wasn’t overly impressed with the gluten free options but I mixed up a starter and side to make a main meal. https://www.thefoxandwillow.co.uk/

Thursday morning before the Funeral we went for a walk along the beach, as it’s January surprise surprise it was bloody cold! Defiantly wrap up warm. We stumbled across an interesting sculpture and some ducks in the sea!

I tried to make the most of my short trip to Scotland, I just wish it had been under nicer circumstances. We flew back after the funeral, it was easy to return the rental car and the airport had a few shops to wander around whilst waiting for the flight.
